On February 4, 2010, the following girls in Ellington Girl Scout Troop 10750 earned the Girl Scouting Bronze Award, the highest award that can be achieved by a Junior Girl Scout: Emalie Bellezza, Rachael Burstein, Ashley Cioto, Jenni Giacalone, Samantha Judson, and Alyssa Roberts. The girls received their awards at an evening ceremony with town and regional Girl Scout officers present.
Two years ago, the girls in Troop 10750 began working toward their Bronze Award. The girls knew that they wanted to help people with disabilities or animals. They were excited when the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation agreed to work with them to assist people in need of guide dogs. Over the last two years, these girls completed many activities to earn their Bronze Award, including working that water stations at the Walk for Fidelco in May of 2009, collecting supplies and making pull toys for Fidelco puppies, and holding a car wash. The girls ultimately donated over $500 to Fidelco, which purchased a complete set of supplies for a new guide dog and a second $200 guide dog harness.
The girls are very proud of their accomplishments, and Fidelco has been a wonderful partner in working on these projects. Fidelco graciously purchased brass plaques for each guide dog harness indicating that the harnesses were donated by Ellington Girl Scout Troop 10750.
